Kurt Zouma booed throughout as Jarrod Bowen strike downs Watford and boosts West Ham’s top-four hopes

Kurt Zouma was on the receiving end of boos as West Ham beat Watford 1-0 on Tuesday night.

A deflected strike from Jarrod Bowen mid-way through the second half was enough to seal victory for David Moyes’ side, who boost their Champions League hopes.

Despite all the backlash Zouma received, he was started by the Irons and helped them secure a clean sheet

Prior to the match, much of the discussion had been based around the Frenchman, who was recorded abusing a cat.

Although he was condemned by the club, the former Chelsea centre-back was thrown into action by Moyes.

Throughout the match, Zouma was on the receiving end of loud jeers, predominantly from the away supporters.

Unfortunately for the Hornets fans though, things did not get much better for them throughout the match.

Roy Hodgson, who masterminded the club’s first clean sheet in nearly two years with a 0-0 draw at Burnley last Saturday, is still yet to see his side find the opposition net, and will hope that it’s a case of third time lucky in their next match against Brighton.

One thing that can be said, is that no team will find it easy to break his side down after West Ham struggled to fashion any clear cut chances throughout.

Watford were stubborn throughout, and will need to be like that for the rest of the season if they are to stay up

Aside from one half moment in the first period, where the hosts forced a good save from Ben Foster and had the resulting effort strike the post, there was little to report on.

The same can be said for much of the second half were Moyes’ side couldn’t get past the Hornets defence.

That doggedness was eventually broken though, as one of the club’s players of the season, Bowen, broke the deadlock with just over 20 minutes to play.

Picking up the ball from Manuel Lanzini, the Liverpool transfer target drove into the heart of the Watford defence, and whilst there was a massive element of fortune, Bowen tried his luck and thankfully for him and West Ham, it was his lucky day.

A low shot was deflected off centre-back Samir which sent Foster completely the wrong way giving him no chance to save Bowen’s shot.

Whilst it wasn’t a pretty performance from West Ham, it was a huge one as they now climb into fourth following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Burnley.
