- Jarrod Bowen 1+ shot on target The Englishman had more shots than any other West Ham player in the league this season
- Declan Rice to commit 1+ foul No West Ham player picked up more yellow cards in the league than the England international
West Ham, looking to win their first trophy in 43 years, have had an extra week of preparation for Wednesday’s final than their opponents, with Fiorentina’s league season not finishing until Friday last week.
The Irons have tasted European success just once before in their history, lifting the Cup Winners’ Cup under the captaincy of Bobby Moore back in 1965.
David Moyes’ side recovered from a largely sub-standard season, where they were 19th in the Premier League’s relegation zone at the start of April, to end up beating the drop by six points and securing a 14th place finish.
The east London side won five of their last six games of the season in all competitions before their 2-1 defeat to a Leicester side battling for their lives to avoid the drop on the final day of the season, by which time the club’s attention had firmly switched to Prague.
Fiorentina won 3-1 away at Sassuolo on Friday night to secure an eighth place finish for the Serie A side, and ensures that Vincenzo Italiano’s side head to Prague with just one defeat in their last six games.
A Viola are also looking to win their second ever European trophy, having also previously won the Cup Winners’ Cup, though not since 1961.
The Italian side’s last trophy came much more recently than West Ham’s last did though, as the club won two Coppa Italia’s in the space of six seasons, the most recent of which was in 2001 under the management of Roberto Mancini.
They did reach the final of this season’s competition though, losing 2-1 to Champions League finalists Inter Milan, meaning Fiorentina will be hoping it’s second time lucky in cup finals this season.
The winner of Wednesday’s clash will also be awarded with a place in next season’s Europa League, a huge prize considering neither team have qualified for Europe next season through their league.
The two teams have met twice before in their history, over two legs in the final of the Anglo-Italian League Cup in 1975, in which the Tuscan side won both legs 1-0.
Moyes and Italiano have never before managed against each other, though the Scot has managed against Fiorentina while in charge of Everton in the 2008 Uefa Cup, losing on penalties in the last 16.
